Community MusicWorks Seeks Violin Resident Musician
Founded in 1997, Community MusicWorks (CMW) is a leader in the music performance and youth development field, building long-term learning and mentoring relationships between professional musicians, youth, and families in Providence, Rhode Island. CMW musicians teach instrument lessons at no cost to youth in the west and south sides of Providence, and perform in a robust concert series throughout Providence and the surrounding communities. The organization was founded on a commitment to social justice, and its work continually examines the connections between social justice concepts and pedagogy, repertoire choices, performance venues, and organizational practice.
CMW is at an exciting moment of growth, having recently opened a 24,000 square foot purpose-built music performance and education center. In the coming years its programming will be amplified through new performance and education programs and partnerships.
The Resident Musician position involves teaching individual and group violin and viola lessons in after-school hours, performing violin as a member of the MusicWorks Collective, and may include teaching additional genres and styles of music, and/or coordinating various aspects of CMW’s educational programming. The successful applicant will be joining a community of musicians who are passionate about exploring and building the connections between music and social justice, who are dedicated to continual growth and learning, who strive to build strong relationships with young musicians and their families, and who enjoy the challenges of both collaborative and individual work. While we are looking for candidates with experience in this field (Suzuki or equivalent training is preferred), we are also interested in applicants who can offer other relevant experience. Professional growth and teacher training opportunities are available as part of the position.
This is a 30 hours/week position, including many weekends and evenings during the academic year, with a start date of August 18, 2025. The position includes health, dental, and retirement benefits, and offers a salary range of $40,000-$46,000 based on experience.
CMW is an equal opportunity employer, and is committed to building a culturally diverse faculty that reflects the neighborhoods in which we are situated. Women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people of color are strongly encouraged to apply.
Priority will be given to applications received by June 16, but the position will remain open until filled. CMW may be able to assist with a relocation stipend. To apply, please send the materials listed below to jobs@communitymusicworks.org.
