Position Type: Part-time, Non-exempt

Compensation: $46 – $50/hr. for teaching; $24/hr. for preparation and meetings

Schedule: Thursdays 2PM – 5PM with possibility for additional days/times in the future.

About Us: 

KeyNote is dedicated to fostering musical excellence and personal growth through music education. Our Opus Project offers free, place-based instrumental music programs for youth in San Diego County schools, providing authentic and affirming spaces that cultivate joy, curiosity, and empathy through the music-making process. We focus on building school based partnerships that foster community advocacy and empowerment.

Role Overview: 

As a Strings Teaching Artist, you will provide instrumental instruction in small groups and lead full ensembles. Working collaboratively with a team of passionate educators, you will implement a curriculum that fosters a positive, engaging, and supportive learning environment for all students.

Key Responsibilities: 

Instruction – Create a safe and consistent learning environment with clear expectations. Foster student activities that build self-confidence and leadership.

Musical Artistry – Offer constructive feedback on technique, musicianship, and ensemble dynamics, supporting students in refining their craft and achieving their artistic potential.

Team Collaboration – Maintain positive, collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and partners. Supervise students and engage families as active participants.

Administrative Duties – Participate in meetings, payroll reporting, and staff development. Record and communicate student attendance and learning progress.

Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in music field, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent musicianship and artistry as a teacher/performer
  • Strong knowledge of instrument-specific repertoire, curriculum, and pedagogy
  • Strong knowledge of orchestral or concert band music, music reading skills, and music pedagogy
  • Ability to implement classroom management techniques sensitive to students’ diverse experiences and needs
  • Bilingual proficiency preferred (English-Spanish or English-Vietnamese)

Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range: $46-50/hr for teaching, $24/hr for prep, meetings, and professional development
