For over 40 years The People’s Music School  has brought the transformative benefits of music to the lives of over 10,000 children across Chicago. We serve children in grades 1 – 12 who otherwise would not be able to afford music education. Our mission is to deliver access to the benefits of high-quality, tuition-free music education. Through intensive instruction and performance, our students achieve excellence in music that transfers to other areas in life. They grow musically, socially, emotionally and intellectually, and develop a foundation of responsibility, self-esteem, resilience and purpose.

 

Job Summary

The People’s Music School is seeking a part-time (15 hours per week) Student Coordinator for our Greater South Side Program, located in Wendell Phillips Academy High School, 244 E. Pershing in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood.

  • Monitoring the student entrance/exit door
  • Greeting families and students, interacting with them in ways that align with our TPMS values, particularly embodying our Community value
  • Checking in students when they arrive and guiding them to the correct location
  • Checking students out when they leave and guiding them to their assigned parent/guardian
  • Assisting Program Manager and Program Coordinator with students arriving on our transportation service
  • Supervising students on bathroom breaks and while they are in the hallways of the school
  • Communicating with the Program Manager to inform them of any concerns families may bring to their attention
  • Providing input to Program Manager on processes to allow students to safely arrive and transition to classes in a timely manner
  • Manage and/or assist with other projects as assigned

 

Qualifications and Compentencies

  • Experience working with people from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds
  • Experience supervising young children
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a busy school environment
  • Highly organized and self-motivated
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus
  • Must pass Chicago Public Schools background check
  • Belief in our transformative mission
  • Demonstrate a commitment to TPMS core values

 

Schedule

Part-time position: 15 hours per week, 33 weeks per year (during the school year)

Must be available when our program is running: Monday – Thursday 3:15 – 7:00 p.m.

Hours may extend to 8:00 p.m. during concerts and special events throughout the school year with advanced notice provided

 

Compensation

Compensation for this position is $20/hour.
