Riverside Arts Academy

Riverside Arts Academy Lead Teaching Artists lead after school and weekend music classes at multiple sites across the city of Riverside, in addition to providing leadership and oversight for their respective programs. RAA students receive high-quality music instruction and mentorship at no cost to their families along with loaned instruments to use for the duration of the program. RAA is an El Sistema USA member organization. Lead Teaching Artists receive paid administrative time and professional development opportunities.

Eligibility

  • Exceptional proficiency with teaching Mariachi music authentically to students ages 7-17
  • Proficiency in Spanish
  • Bachelor’s degree in music or equivalent experience
  • Willingness to learn about and support the mission of Riverside Arts Academy
  • Pass a background and reference check prior to hire
  • Successfully complete all mandatory onboarding requirements and assessments

Specific Duties

  • Lead the Riverside Arts Academy’s renowned Mariachi Juvenil de Riverside program
  • Design effective and authentic Mariachi curricula
  • Teach RAA Mariachi classes engagingly
  • Communicate with all relevant parties on student practice requirements, individual goals, and future performance details
  • Collaborate with other Teaching Artists and their respective music classes to ensure students are progressing consistently across RAA’s programs.
  • Support students in their class with positive teaching practices that encourage socio-emotional growth
  • Identify performance and growth opportunities for RAA’s Mariachi Juvenil de Riverside
  • Recruit students to participate in the program
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Teaching Artists report to the Executive and Artistic Director. All positions, site assignments, and their availability are based on current organizational needs.
