El Sistema USA and its Board of Directors unequivocally stand with the Asian, Asian-American, and Pacific Islander community in condemnation of the most recent acts of violence and hate inflicted in Atlanta, Georgia. We also recognize that these hateful and racist actions are not new, often manifesting as violence towards women of the AAPI community. We will continue our work building and strengthening communities and their youth through music, joining in solidarity with our Asian, Asian-American, and Pacific Islander neighbors now and in the future.

In response to the alarming escalation in xenophobia and bigotry resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, Asian Pacific Planning and Policy Council (A3PCON), Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA), and the Asian American Studies Department of San Francisco State University launched the Stop AAPI Hate Reporting Center on March 19, 2020. The center tracks and responds to incidents of hate, violence, harassment, discrimination, shunning, and child bullying against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders throughout the United States.

Through reports and advocacy, the center has raised national awareness about the issue of anti-Asian hate and counted 3,800 reports of anti-Asian hate incidents. March 16, 2021, Stop AAPI Hate National Report (PDF)
