Josh deVries joined the team at El Sistema USA in August of 2018. Prior to that, he served as Program Manager at The People’s Music School in Chicago, a tuition-free music school that provides music education to over 800 students from around Chicago. In 2014, he was a recipient of the Yamaha In-Residence Fellowship, an award given by Yamaha and The College Music Society for his project, “The People’s Brass Project.” Under his leadership, his project helped The People’s Music School increase enrollment of brass students and raise funds to acquire instruments for students in the program. His previous administrative roles include Manager of Student Life at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Camp Director at the Luzerne Music Center, and Community Engagement Coordinator for Northwestern University’s Chamber Music program. As a musician, he has performed with The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Philharmonic, New World Symphony Orchestra, South Florida Philharmonic and more. He holds a Bachelors of Music from the Lynn Conservatory at Lynn University and a Masters of Music from Northwestern University. He is an avid believer in music’s unique ability to empower students to change the world.
