About Play On Philly

Play On Philly (POP) is a non-profit organization that provides daily, after-school music instruction to over 300 K-12 students, principally those from historically marginalized communities. During the months of June through August, POP opens its programming to students across the city of Philadelphia for a full-day summer program featuring music and arts programming. Students take a deeper dive into their music-making through choir, theory, studio classes, and chamber music classes, in addition to exploring other creative outlets such as dance, visual arts, physical education, and creative writing.

 

Job Description

Working in partnership with POP’s Summer Program Coordinator, the Physical Education (PE) Teacher will provide a positive environment for POP musicians to engage in physical fitness through team activities and outdoor fun. Student musicians will learn to be collaborative, healthy, and physically fit through a variety of activities designed to get students moving.

 

The PE Teacher is responsible for the design and format of the class and will be responsible for adhering to the POP rules and guidelines for student citizenship. POP will provide the necessary materials and equipment. A POP intern may be available to assist with instruction and classroom management.

 

This position is ideal for you if you enjoy and have experience working with school-aged children, are creative, industrious, and enjoy problem-solving and multitasking. If you are passionate about impacting young lives and have excellent classroom management, please apply!

 

Qualifications

  • Experience working with and managing students; experience leading activities in a camp or after-school setting is a plus
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
  • An energetic personality that can build positive relationships with children and can understand and meet their wide variety of needs
  • Flexibility and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to design and implement physical activities

 

Location: Temple University’s Boyer College of Music & Dance (2001 N. 13th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19122)

 

Time Commitment:

Mondays – Fridays, afternoon sessions (between 2:00-4:30pm; exact class time to be determined)

June 20 – July 28, 2023 (no program on July 4th)

 

Compensation: $1,800
