Title: Socio-Cultural Awareness and Building Authentic Student Relationships

Presenter: Monique Van Willingh, Director of Music and Social Change Programs, Longy School of Music of Bard College

An introduction to socio-cultural awareness, this webinar will explore concepts such as intersectionality (intersection between race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality, nation, language, age and ability), privilege and power, assumptions and biases and multi-culturalism. We will then use intersectionality as the lens through which to explore building meaningful relationships with students are authentic, deeply caring, yet hold students to high expectations.
