“Play – but with your heart, not with your head!” Katie Wyatt leads a workshop on “El Sistema,” the international movement of music for social change that began in Venezuela in the 1970’s and has taken the world by storm. Wyatt is the President and CEO of El Sistema USA and a John F. Kennedy Center Citizen Artist Fellow. She will be joined by Washington D.C. area leaders of El Sistema-inspired youth music programs, who are members of El Sistema USA, the national association supporting 115 El Sistema inspired youth music organizations across the country, in more than 35 states and territories.
Following the panel discussion, there will be a screening of the film “El Sistema,” featuring the history of El Sistema and its founding in Venezuela, the story of the founder Maestro Jose Antonio Abreu and El Sistema’s growth and adaptation worldwide.
